Matthews to Declare Farmhouse Historic Landmark
Saturday, February 14, 2009
A farmhouse built in 1887 will be spared demolition for at least a 12-months thanks to the Matthews Board of Commissioners. The board voted to begin the process to declare the house at 2049 Moore Road an historic landmark. By law the house must be preserved for a one year period. The house sits on property now owned by Liberty Healthcare, which plans to build a retirement community there. The Matthews Historical Foundation will find a new location for the house and the funds to move it.
